Privacy

XIVCHAR shows Final Fantasy XIV characters, their gear and their groups. All of it starts from what the Lodestone publishes. This page says what we keep, how we update it, why it is built to be useless to a stalker, what a private profile means here, and how to opt out for good.

This page describes the system as it runs today. When the system changes, this page changes with it. Last updated 2026-09-14.

What we hold

There are no accounts on XIVCHAR. Everything here is about characters, and it comes from two sources: the Lodestone, and the XivcharUpdater plugin for Dalamud.

For each character

Identity
Lodestone id, name, home world, race, clan, gender and grand company, as the Lodestone shows them.
Images
The face portrait and the full-body render. We keep our own copy, because the Lodestone changes its image links every few hours. The copy is replaced by each import and is never removed on its own.
Groups
Free company, linkshells and cross-world linkshells, with the dates a character joined and left. The pages show only current memberships.
Jobs
The level and experience of every job, as the Lodestone shows them.
Gear
The currently equipped set for each job: every item, its quality, materia, dyes and glamour, plus the item level and stats we compute from it. One set per job today.
Timestamps
When we last imported the character, when something last changed, and when the next check is due.

For each free company and linkshell

Identity
Lodestone id, name, tag, world, crest and the slogan the group wrote, as the Lodestone shows them.
Roster
Which characters are members and their rank, with join and leave dates. The page shows only current members.

From the plugin

Sightings
The name and world of players seen near a plugin user, so we can look the character up on the Lodestone. A sighting is kept after it resolves, as a record of what the plugin reported. It carries nothing about who reported it.
Gear reports
The plugin user's own equipped gear, or the gear of a character the user examined by hand in game: race, clan, gender, job, level and the items worn. Nothing the game does not show to the examining player. A report about a character we do not hold yet waits up to a week for that character, then it is dropped.
Installation id
A random id the plugin creates the first time gear upload is turned on. It lets us cut off one installation that misbehaves. It is not derived from the machine, the account or the character, and it is not stored with the gear.

How we update it

We read a character from the Lodestone again every 12 hours. When several checks in a row find nothing new, the interval steps out: 12 hours, then 2 days, then 1 week, then 1 month. Any change puts the character back on 12 hours. Every character page shows its own interval.

Three things bring the next import forward: someone opens the character's page for the first time, someone presses Refresh on it, or the plugin sees the character in game. What that import finds decides the cadence after it. A change puts the character back on 12 hours. No change leaves it where it was. Nothing on the site shows who did any of these.

Free companies and linkshells are read again about once a day. Every member found on a roster is registered as a character and imported in turn.

Each import replaces the last one: name, world, portrait, jobs and gear are overwritten with what the Lodestone shows now. A slot that is no longer equipped is removed at the next import. We keep one gear set per job today. We may keep earlier sets in future, so a fight can be read beside the gear worn at the time, and this page will say so when we do. Group membership is different: we keep when a character joined and left a group, and the pages show only the current members.

Nothing is deleted on its own. A character the Lodestone no longer has keeps its last import. If that is your character, the opt-out below removes it.

Stalking

Final Fantasy XIV has a stalking problem, and third-party tools have made it worse. In 2024 a change to the game's blacklist sent every player's account id to other players' game clients. PlayerScope used that id to link every character on one account, to log renames and world transfers, and to record where a character had been seen. It closed under a cease and desist in June 2025. Memoria did the same from a plugin in 2026 and added gear, groups and location to the record. It shut down in July 2026, and a successor appeared within two weeks. Each of these tools turns what a game client can see into a searchable record of where a person was, when, and under which names.

Square Enix's own rules name the behaviour: moving to where someone is after being asked to stop, and making new characters to reach someone who has blacklisted you. What makes it possible is not a name or a gear set. It is location, time, and an identity that survives a rename or a world transfer. XIVCHAR is built to be useless for that.

No location
We never record the zone, the position or the time a character was seen. The plugin sends a name and a world, and nothing about where or when. The server notes when a sighting arrived, for its own bookkeeping, and never publishes it.
No online status
Nothing here says whether a character is logged in, or when it last was. The only times we show are our own import times.
No account ids
The plugin reads the name and the home world of the characters your client already draws, and nothing hidden. It does not read the account id or any other identifier the game keeps out of sight.
No alt linking
We hold nothing that ties two characters to one person, and we build no such link. Not from the plugin, not from the Lodestone.
No rename tracking
We keep no former names and no former worlds. After a rename or a world transfer, all we hold is the current name and world.

One thing we cannot build away. Our pages are keyed by the Lodestone id, and the Lodestone keeps that id through a rename or a world transfer. Someone who saved a link to your page will see the current name and world when they open it, exactly as they would on the Lodestone. If you renamed or moved to get away from someone, set your Lodestone profile to private, then press Refresh on your page here so we re-check at once. Or opt out, below.

If you think something on this site can be used to find or follow a person, tell us on Discord. Name the page and say what worries you. You do not have to be the player concerned, and you do not have to prove anything. We would rather take a page down than help a stalker.

Private profiles

The Lodestone lets you set your character profile to private. XIVCHAR honours that setting fully. A private character shows nothing on this site: no name, no world, no portrait, no grand company, no free company or linkshell, no jobs, no gear. That includes data we gathered before the profile went private, and gear the plugin reported. The character page says only that the profile is private.

In a free company or linkshell roster a private member is an empty seat. The seat keeps its rank, and nothing says who fills it. The member count stays right.

We keep the stored data, we do not show it. When the profile becomes public again, the next import shows it again. We re-check a private profile about once a week.

One thing this does not cover. The search box on this site passes your search to the Lodestone's own search, live, and shows what the Lodestone answers. A private character appears there exactly as it appears on the Lodestone. We do not filter that list. The Lodestone has a second setting that hides a character from its search, and that one hides it from ours too.

Opt out for good

A private profile hides your character here for as long as it stays private. Opting out goes further. We delete what we hold about the character, and we refuse to take it back: not from the Lodestone, not from a free company roster, not from the plugin, not from a page visit.

The self-service form is being built. You will prove that the character is yours through your Lodestone profile, and the removal is then immediate and permanent.

Until it ships, ask on Discord. Name the character and the world, and say how we can see that it is yours. We handle the request by hand.

Questions

If something on this page does not match what you see on the site, tell us on Discord. The mismatch is a bug, and we fix bugs.
